GUIDED IMAGERY
INFORMED CONSENT BROCHURE
Guided Imagery
Guided Imagery is a therapeutic relaxation method that enables the client to obtain access to
their unconscious; by-passing that censor we call the mind. The mind in this instance is the
part of our consciousness that edits and overrides many of our true feelings and reactions to
life issues as well as pain and trauma. Root issues are revealed and false belief systems are
clarified. A judgment free environment between therapist and client assures that there is no
bad truth. Guided Imagery is a wonderful and effective stand-alone tool for healing. In
addition, Guided Imagery can be a useful augmentation to traditional therapy, especially with
issues a client may be struggling to understand.
Results and Benefits of Guided Imagery
Establishing Client Goals + Individual Client Needs + Discerning Root Issues + Results
When this equation is successfully applied, a client is able to live more comfortably,
confidently, and successfully. Client questions like, "why me, why this, why now?" are explored.
Different parts of an individual (called sub-personalities) that are in internal conflict within a
client are reconciled to bring about a sense of inner peace and resolution. Additional benefit is
achieved through the natural healing of the emotions and body that takes place during Guided
Imagery as the heart rate and blood pressure decrease and the immune system and
metabolism increase. Guided Imagery is helpful in may areas of life such are:
Assist Healing - Physical & Emotional Relationship Improvement
Allergies Body Image Concentration Insomnia Motivation
Motion Sickness Problem Solving Breaking Habits/Patterns
Writer's Block Improve- Sports, Work or School Performance
Pain Control - all types including pre and post surgery
Personal Growth - see yourself without distortion
Stress Reduction - reconcile inner conflict
Smoking and Weight Control
Pre-Imagery Consultation
During the initial conversation with the client, the therapist discovers issues the client chooses
to work on in the Guided Imagery session to follow. Often the first session can consist entirely
of this discovery process. At all times the therapist works toward establishing a comfortable,
trusting environment and relationship with the client. This safe environment is established in
part by the assurance of applies ethics and complete confidentiality. Thus enabling the client
to more fully and freely express and experience any and all emotions necessary while moving
toward healing.
Process of Guided Imagery Therapy
The process of Guided Imagery brings the client to a very relaxed yet completely aware state of
being. During this very relaxed state the client is readily able to communicate with the therapist
as their personally tailored Imagery unfolds. The client and therapist work as a team
discovering the needed Imagery experience to achieve the client's particular goal. The actual
Imagery experience itself requires 15 - 25 minutes. At the conclusion of the Imagery a client is
generally feeling rested and can recall in detail the Guided Imagery experience. The therapist
then opens a discussion with the client that generally achieves clarity and understanding of the
messages and metaphors put forth by the client's subconscious. It is through the
post-imagery discussion that issues can be understood , learned from and healed.
